Chorus I’m exhausted and I’m broken Exhausted and I’m broke I’m exhausted and I’m broken Get off my tits. My tits are like two canon balls Explosive lumps of flesh and milk They weigh me down and pull my neck Like giant knuckles on my chest. Let me eat and let me sleep And fucking let me piss in peace Let me swing my arms around And have the use of both my hands. I pull out clumps of hair each day Down the plug it flows away Swathes of the stuff on the bathroom tiles No time to clean, it’ll have to stay. The torment of the tendons in my hands, I had no clue But Mothers Thumb’s the real deal Bloody hell, who knew?! Chorus I’m tender and I’m fragile Too scared to take a shit What if I tear apart again Jesus Chris, that would be it. I’m a prisoner to the sofa And I’ve lost what makes me me Is it true that all I am Is a mother to my baby. Chorus Achieve nothing and survive Is the moto of the day This is how it is right now For how long, I cannot say. For how long, I cannot say. For how long, I cannot say. I’m exhausted… And I’m broke… I’m exhausted… And I’m broken.

I don’t know how, How did we get here? Where did time go, No one can tell us We don’t know, We don’t know. Look at us now, Wrinkles and grey hairs Don’t you feel old? Don’t you feel cranky In your bones, In your bones. Pre-chorus As I look in the mirror And study all the contours Of my ageing face Every line tells a story Every cell’s been on a journey And I don’t seem to really, really mind it. Why don’t we realise Why don’t we notice It’s not on the outside It’s not on the surface It’s within our hearts And in our minds. It’s not superficial It’s more than a picture Like a flower or sunset You don’t tend to judge it You appreciate it For what it is. Pre-chorus I don’t know how, How did we get here? Where did time go, No one can tell us…

Why did you question my ambitions? You doubted my drive and my commitment Is it because I am a woman? What made you think I didn’t want it? Was it your dated pre-conceptions? Is it because I am a woman? Chorus And oh, we can, we can, we can! Yeah, given a chance, a chance. Are you for real with your man-splainin’? You’re being so bloody patronisin’ Is it because I am a woman? I got an opinion, listen to me Why won’t you take me seriously Is it because I am a woman? Chorus “How does it feel to be a woman in a man’s world?” I’ll follow my heart and intuition I won’t be put down by your sexism It is because I am a woman. Believe in my self and I will do it Always dream big, the sky’s my limit It is because I am a woman. Chorus And yeah, we are, we are, we are Capable of anything!

Chorus This hormone called love This hormone called love Can’t stop thinking of This hormone called love Gets you through anything I can think of This hormone called love This hormone called love. When I was a child I wanted to be A musician first Then a mother of three Now I am both Am I doing it well? God only knows Only time will tell. Hypnobirthing yeah I know that I can and my body will. Oxytocin yeah, Cwtsh up baby it’s such a thrill! Chorus I sing in the night and I sing in the day I sing when I work and I sing when I play I sing to my baby to get her to sleep It’s the only way I know And it sure works a treat. Pre-chorus Chorus

about

This album was written within six months, and was an outpouring of self-expression on becoming a mother for the first time. The album intentionally contains multitudes because that is what motherhood is like. It’s a brightly layered celebration of parenthood, but it also includes a seam of grief for an old life that has been lost forever – a discordant phenomenon that many parents will recognise.
